No gimmicks, no shticks. Just the right music for the crowd and the occasion.
I live in Minneapolis with my wife Mercedes and dog Harry. When I’m not spinning tunes, you can find me scoping out all things Mid-Century Modern, supporting local music, traveling or enjoying a quiet night at home with my family.
When my schedule permits, I enjoy bringing favorite artists to the stage with a DJ set and introduction. Previous acts include: The Jesus & Mary Chain, Tame Impala, Psychedelic Furs, Grizzly Bear, Ladytron, OMD, Beach House, St. Vincent, Hot Chip, Johnny Marr of the Smiths, Franz Ferdinand, The Ocean Blue, Twin Shadow, The Magnetic Fields, The Selecter, The Sounds, Howard Jones, Garbage, Thomas Dolby, Midge Ure of Ultravox, Cut Copy, Tom Tom Club and more.
The radio program:
Airing live from the 89.3 Current studios every Thursday night at 10pm (CST) with a different theme to the program each week.
Being named after the Joy Division classic, the show is heavily centered around new wave and British pop and will often play host to in-studio sessions and interviews with musicians from those worlds…most recently Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music, Duran Duran’s John Taylor, Adam Ant, synth-pioneers Thomas Dolby, Howard Jones and Midge Ure as well as Talking Heads & Tom Tom Club co-founder Chris Frantz.
The club night:
Called “The Best Dance Night, Period” by METRO Magazine (2010) and ” The Best Dance Night in the Twin Cities” by readers of Vita.MN Magazine (2011 & 2012).
Transmission is a weekly dance night every Wednesday starting at 10pm at Club Jager in the North Loop of downtown Minneapolis & the last Wednesday of every month at the Varsity Theater in (Dinkytown) Minneapolis. Transmission celebrated it’s 10th anniversary in 2011.
* Recent Transmission press via L’etoile Magazine:
“Jake Rudh’s Transmission dance party is one of those bragworthy, homegrown Minnesota staples, like Surly Furious, Peace Coffee and “Purple Rain” — one of those uniquely hip things that we proudly share with our friends who reside in places like NYC, LA or Chicago as a way of saying, this is why we live in Minnesota. Rudh, who frequently tops the Twin Cities “Best of” lists is lauded for his quirky sets loaded with obscure tracks, but grounded with intuitive hits spanning new wave, post-punk, glam rock, mod rock, alternative and indie rock. Every Wednesday night, Jake tempts people away from their workweek sleep schedules to bust it out and rock it to New Order, the Ramones, B-52s, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Interpol, Bowie and everything else that compels you to adopt a lipstick rock-god persona. We’re all gonna die, but Transmission works to keep our engines running.”
